A local company, not a call centre

Odds are we already know somebody you know.

Twenty-five years in this city, and almost none of it from advertising. People pass our name along — a cousin’s place in Barrhaven, the shop where you get your coffee, the contractor who did your kitchen, the guy who plows your street. Ask around about us. Somebody will have a story, and we would rather be judged on that than on a billboard.

Do you have that connection with a national brand?

Their office is in another province. Nobody in that building has driven down your street or knows which door sticks in February. You are an account number in a system, tied to a thirty-six or sixty-month contract you signed at your kitchen table.

We may look small next to them. We are. One office, our own technicians, no marketing department. What we are not is amateur: twenty-five years on the tools, a ULC-listed station, and every price we charge published on this website — equipment, monthly, the lot. Nothing held back until somebody is sitting in your kitchen. Professionals do not need to hide the numbers.

Here is the part worth sitting with: it is the same work. The same ULC station. The same police, fire and medical dispatch. The same Alarm.com app on the same phone. You are paying the difference for a name on a truck — and for the privilege of being locked in.

We are at 36 Capital Drive in Nepean: a real door, with people behind it, that you can walk into on a Tuesday with a photo of your keypad and no appointment. No contract — thirty days’ notice, and if we stop earning it, you leave.

Our monitoring rates, in public

Monitoring starts at $9.99. With the Alarm.com app, $14.99.

Most Ottawa alarm companies will not show you a number until someone is sitting in your kitchen. Here are both of ours, per month plus HST for the first year — the one with the app is the Universal Communicator plan, for a panel you already own. Already have a system on the wall? Tell us what it is and we will price it in about ten seconds.

Nothing on the wall yet, or starting from scratch? Start from a package below ↓ — four kits we actually install, priced end to end.

Just want it monitored, no app?

You just want it monitored.

$9.99/mo first year

then $14.99 + HST. No app — the panel reports over its own phone line.

  • 24/7 ULC monitoring by Lanvac, live Ottawa agents
  • Intrusion, fire monitoring, smoke, CO, flood, freeze, medical alert and panic — one plan
  • Account set-up, programming and switch-over free
  • Runs over your panel’s existing phone line, so the line has to stay — and it cannot be VoIP from your internet or cable provider, because those drop alarm signals. Why that matters
  • No contract — 30 days’ notice to cancel. Pre-authorized monthly payment.

Moving an Alarm.com account from another company, or putting an older panel onto the app — it is the same two questions. The model is usually on a label on the keypad or inside the box.

Not sure of the model? Tap the brand instead

Whatever this says, we confirm compatibility on your actual panel before anything is ordered. Panels of the same name were built over twenty-odd years and a firmware version or a board date can change the answer.

Start from a package

Four kits we actually install in Ottawa homes, priced end to end and yours to change right here. Use the − and + on any line, Details to see what a part actually is, and the drawer at the bottom of a card to add anything else — the price and the monthly follow as you go. Monthly is shown on Interactive, the plan nearly everybody is on, and the full list of plans is under the cards. Equipment is a one-time cost, installed; nothing is ordered until we have confirmed it with you in writing.

The IQ Panel 5 is the system itself — it is in all four.
Where is it going?
The starting point

The basics

Two ways in and the main floor covered — where most break-ins start.

  • IQ Panel 5 touchscreen
  • Door sensors front and back
  • Motion detector main floor
Most popular

See who is at your door

The basics, and a camera on the one door everybody comes to.

  • IQ Panel 5 touchscreen
  • Door sensors front and back
  • Motion detector main floor
  • 755 video doorbell 4MP, package detection, onboard recording
The most coverage

Want to see more outside

The doorbell, plus a camera that watches the yard in the dark.

  • IQ Panel 5 touchscreen
  • Door sensors front and back
  • Motion detector main floor
  • 755 video doorbell 4MP, package detection, onboard recording
  • VC730P outdoor camera spotlight, Perimeter Guard, works to −50 °C
The one people skip

The basics + life safety

A burglar takes your things. A fire at three in the morning takes something you do not get back.

  • IQ Panel 5 touchscreen
  • Door sensors front and back
  • Motion detector main floor
  • Monitored smoke / heat detector
  • Monitored CO detector
  • Water sensor laundry, sump or water heater

These three cost nothing extra a month. Fire, smoke, CO and medical dispatch are in the base monitoring at every price on this page, and the water sensor reaches your phone on plain Interactive. You pay for the detectors, not for the watching of them — and they report whether or not anyone is home, whether the system is armed or disarmed, and whether or not you are conscious.

Prices update live as you change a card, from the price file our own office publishes. Monthly is shown on Interactive, the plan nearly everybody is on — the four plans and what each one adds are just below. Not what you had in mind? Book a free site visit and a technician walks the property with you.

The four plans and what each one includesUniversal Communicator $14.99 · Interactive $19.99 · + Automation $25.99 · Gold $29.99, first year

The whole monthly bill — 24/7 monitoring with police, fire and medical dispatch is already in it. Interactive is the one nearly everybody ends up on, and it comes with the Alarm.com app. Packages above are priced on it; pick another here and they reprice.

Interactive

Standard monitoring plus the Alarm.com app

$19.99/ month
first year
$24.99
after that
  • Arm and disarm from your phone, anywhere
  • Activity alerts for doors, windows and motion, even while disarmed
  • Smart Arming arms at night and disarms in the morning, on its own
  • Cancel or confirm an alarm from the app; in-app panic button
  • User codes managed from the app
  • Alarm and disarm images from image sensors or a panel camera
  • Siri Shortcuts voice control

Interactive + Automation

Everything in Interactive, plus your smart home

$25.99/ month
first year
$30.99
after that
Adds
  • Lights, locks, thermostat, garage door and gate from the app
  • Scenes and schedules: one tap locks up, sets the heat and arms
  • Out-of-the-ordinary alerts: door left unlocked, unexpected activity
  • Severe weather alerts on the panel
  • Works with Sonos, Lutron, shades, solar, irrigation and energy monitoring

These need the device. The plan gives you the control; the lock, the thermostat, the light switch or the garage opener does the work. Already have them? They connect. If not, add them in the add-on drawer on any package above and we fit them.

Universal Communicator

Keep the old panel on the wall and put it on the app

$14.99/ month
first year
$19.99
after that
  • Arm and disarm from your phone through your existing panel
  • Alarm and trouble notifications in the app
  • In-app property panic button
  • Your panel, keypads and sensors stay exactly where they are
  • Cameras and doorbells still work — add a video plan to any system, including this one
  • No smart-home control or image sensors on this plan

Interactive Gold

Everything in Interactive + Automation, plus

$29.99/ month
first year
$34.99
after that
Adds
  • Images Plus: disarm snapshots, Daily View and on-demand Peek-In from your image sensors, 400 images a month
  • 6-hour supervision instead of 24: we know within 6 hours if your panel stops reporting
  • Weather forecast on your panel

Universal Communicator is for keeping an old dialer panel on the wall and putting it on the app — if that is you, tell us your panel in Already have a system? above and we will point you at it anyway. Interactive + Automation is worth it once you have lights, locks or a thermostat you want to control. Interactive Gold adds Images Plus and tighter supervision on top of Automation, and suits a small number of people who know they want it.

Too many questions — can we just get a call?

Of course. Leave your name and a number, and a person rings you back and works it out with you. No forms to finish, no quote to read first.

Yes — just call me

Equipment prices shown here are approximate and can fluctuate with supplier costs — we update them regularly, and your written quote is confirmed before anything is ordered. Monthly service prices are firm, plus HST. Nothing on this page is a contract.

First-year rate applies to the standard monitoring portion; Alarm.com plans, video and extras are billed in full from day one. Alarm.com plans need an Alarm.com-compatible system and communicator. The only one-time charge is equipment and installation, quoted in writing before anything is ordered — there is no activation fee.

How dispatch works — and what it costs

Nobody gets sent to your house until we've tried to reach you.

An alarm signal does not put anyone in a vehicle. The monitoring station works through your contact list first — your phone, your app, then every keyholder on the account. Only when nobody answers and nobody cancels does the question of dispatch come up at all, and even then it is answered the way you set it up.

  1. Signal received. The station has it within seconds.
  2. You are contacted. By phone, and the alert lands in your app. Cancel it there and it ends — most do.
  3. Keyholders are called. Everyone on the list, in the order you put them in.
  4. Only now does anything get dispatched — and only if your account says to.

If nobody can be reached, there are three ways it can go — you choose

Guard callout — optional add-on
~$80

average, per callout, set by the guard company

  • A uniformed guard in a marked vehicle attends and checks the property
  • Finds nothing wrong — police are never dispatched, so no fee and nothing on your record
  • Finds something real — police attend a verified incident, not another alarm bell
  • Charged only when a guard is actually sent
Police — false alarm
~$180

plus tax, per occurrence, set by City of Ottawa by-law

  • Charged to the registration holder every time police attend a false alarm
  • Recorded against the address under the False Alarm Reduction By-law
  • Appeals go through us, in writing, within 72 hours — and often fail
  • Repeat occurrences are how a property loses police response altogether
Notify only — no dispatch
$0

no callout, no fee — nobody is sent

  • Fully monitored — every signal is handled by the station
  • Your whole contact list is called and your main emergency contacts are messaged
  • Nothing is ever dispatched — the alert and nothing else
  • Optional backstop: more than two alarm signals and nobody reachable gets called in — set the threshold, or turn it off

About those two prices — read this part. Neither service is ours. Guard response is provided by a licensed guard company and dispatched through the monitoring station; the police fee is set by City of Ottawa by-law. We do not set either price and both can change without notice. The $80 is an average — it varies by guard company, time of day and location. The $180 is the current by-law fee, plus applicable taxes. Both are shown here so you can weigh the decision, not as a quote. Guard response is an optional add-on, charged per occurrence, never included in a monthly plan, and we go through the current rate with you before it is added to your account. A guard attends, observes and reports — they are not police officers and do not intervene.

When something goes wrong at two in the morning — and one day it will — what matters is whether there is a company behind the app. There is. You can drive to it.

Come and see us. That is not a figure of speech.

If something about your system is bothering you, or a bill does not look right, or you just want to know what the thing on your wall actually does — walk in. Monday to Friday, eight to five, 36 Capital Drive. Somebody at a desk will talk to you about it. No ticket number, no chatbot, no hold music, no call centre in another province working from a script.

We live here. Our kids go to school here. If we treat you badly you will tell your neighbour and we will feel it, which is exactly how it should work and exactly why twenty-seven years of this business came from word of mouth rather than advertising.
