Keep the system. Change who bills you.
If your panel already runs Alarm.com, you do not need new equipment and you do not lose your app, your history or your devices. The account moves to us, you keep the same hardware, and your monthly drops to our published rate. The one thing that has to happen first: your current provider has to release the communicator.
The panel brand and model — Qolsys IQ Panel, 2GIG, or a Honeywell VISTA or DSC with an Alarm.com module. A photo of the panel and of the Alarm.com app's system screen is usually enough. We confirm it will run on our account before you cancel anything.
Are you still inside a contract term, and did you buy the equipment or is it leased? A term still running can mean a cancellation fee, and leased equipment may not be yours to move. Read the agreement or ask them directly — we will tell you honestly if it is worth waiting out the term.
There are two ways. The clean one is a dealer transfer — they hand the account to us from inside their Alarm.com portal and nothing is interrupted. If they will not do that, you cancel, and when the account closes the communicator is released — then we activate it on a fresh account. Same panel, same app.
Once the communicator is free we enrol it, set up your users and walk you through the app. Cameras, doorbells, locks and thermostats that are already on the system come across with it. No new contract, ever.
Who are you with now?
The answer changes what a move looks like — and two of these are not really choices anybody made. Straight answers, dates and sources on each:
Got a quote with “free” equipment? Do the math. Free equipment is financed inside a 36 or 60 month rate, and the rate can rise when the term ends. Put their numbers beside ours and see the whole cost — contract and two years past it. About twenty seconds.
“Free equipment” is not free. It is financed.
Our competitors will build you a package too, and price it to look good on the first page. Here is the only comparison that matters: what you pay in total, over the years you are actually locked in. Change the numbers to match the quote in your hand.
Their quote
Ours
It starts on Interactive at $24.99 (the standard rate; your first year is $5 less, and the total below already counts that) with $689 for an IQ Panel 5 — the system itself, which you own. Change both sides to whatever you were actually quoted; their upfront is usually 0, because the equipment is “free”.
| Them | Accurate Security | |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $55.00 | $24.99 |
| Equipment upfront | $0 “free” | $689.00 |
| Monitoring over the term | $1,980.00 | $839.64 |
| Total over the term | $1,980.00 | $1,528.64 |
| Then the contract ends — or quietly renews — the next two years | ||
| Monthly after the term | $65.00 | $24.99 no contract |
| Those 24 months | $1,560.00 | $599.76 |
| Total over 5 years | $3,540.00 | $2,128.40 |
| You keep | $1,411.60 over 60 months | |
That last block is the part nobody shows you. When a term ends the provider is free to raise the rate, and most do — if yours has not gone up yet, it can. Ours works differently: month to month from day one, no contract to renew and no renewal increase built in, and the equipment is already yours. Our base monitoring rate has not changed since we started — and if it ever did, you are never locked in. Change the renewal figure above to whatever you think theirs will be.
Plenty of alarm contracts renew automatically unless you cancel in writing inside a narrow window before the term is up — often 30 to 90 days. Miss it and you are signed for another term, with the same payout if you try to leave. Before you sign, read the fine print: the renewal clause, the cancellation window and what the payout really is.
We are not saying that from a textbook. We were caught by exactly this with a fleet-service supplier of our own, and it took ten months to sort out. It is a miserable way to learn, which is why there is nothing to renew here. Eight questions to ask before you sign anything →
