Already monitored by somebody else

Moving a Resideo system over to us.

If your panel is a VISTA, a First Alert FA, or a ProSeries, you are already on the equipment we are a Premier Pro Partner for. Nothing on the wall needs to change. What has to happen first is that your current company releases it.

Before anything else: do not cancel yet. The contract term, whether the equipment is leased, and whether the panel is locked are what actually decide this, and all three are easier to deal with while you are still a customer of theirs. Those four checks are the same whichever of our three systems you end up on, so they are written out once, in one place. The four things to check before you cancel →

What is specific to this door

One thing, and it is the thing that decides whether this is a switch or a new install.

The communicator is registered to whoever installed it

A Resideo panel reports through a communicator — the module that carries the alarm signals out over internet and cell, and carries Total Connect 2.0 to your phone. That module is registered to the dealer account of the company that put it in. It is not a question of the hardware: the panel and the sensors are yours, and the communicator usually is too. It is the registration that has to move, and only they can let go of it.

So we check that before you cancel anything. Tell us the panel model and send a photo of the communicator if you can get the cover off — we will tell you whether it is one we can take over as it sits, whether it needs releasing first, or whether the honest answer is a new communicator on your existing panel. That last one is still a takeover, and it is still far cheaper than a new system.

And what happens to your app

Your Total Connect logins live on your current company's account. Where they will hand the account over, it comes across with its history and your devices intact. Where they will not — and some will not, because it makes leaving harder — the account closes and we build you a fresh one on the same panel and the same sensors. You would re-enter your users and your notifications; you would not re-buy anything. We will tell you which of the two you are looking at before you commit, not after.

If your panel is a VISTA but its communicator is an Alarm.com module, this is not the door you want — it is already on the other platform and it moves over there instead. Switching on Alarm.com → Not sure which one is on your panel? The panel lookup on the main site sorts it out →

What the move costs

And sometimes we will tell you not to do it. On a panel near the end of its life, a communicator is money spent twice — when the panel does fail, whatever replaces it will not need that part. We would rather say so on the visit than take the order. That is also true if the answer turns out to be that you should wait out the term with your current company.
